We warmly invite you to the CNA’s Annual General Meeting.  

Please join us in discussing our future planning and development. We are very pleased to announce that our specialist speaker this year is Sharon Erdrich.

The link between gut health and Mental Health

Sharon Erdrich MHSc [Hons], NZRGON, Dip Nat, Dip Med Herb, Dip Aroma. Vice President, NZ Society of Naturopaths

Sharon has worked in healthcare for almost forty years, with experience in a broad range of healthcare settings. Her teaching background includes being a lead tutor at Wellpark College of Natural Therapies since 2003; lecturing at Unitec and the NZ College of Massage. She now focuses primarily on post-graduate education - both in New Zealand and internationally.

An ever-expanding body of evidence makes it very clear that gut health and mental health are intricately linked. Sharon will give an overview of some of the mechanisms we need to be cognisant of when working with people with depression and anxiety, exploring the role of diet, digestion and gut flora. SiBO has complex aetiology and presentation and can have strong links to mental health. Sharon will also give a brief introduction to breath testing to diagnose this common gut condition.

We are very pleased to announce that our presenter 

this year is Tracey Bennett, co-founder of The Exceptional Health Company

Six years ago, Tracey and Jason Bennett co-founded The Exceptional Health Company based on sheer demand in their community from people wanting to improve their heath and vitality.  Tracey is a self-educated Wholefood Chef who is passionate about creating, enjoying and sharing delicious, nourishing plant based food with others.  As a working mother of four Tracey knows just how important it is to create simple meals that taste fantastic and don’t demand too much of you.  She takes great pleasure in sharing her love of food with others and is currently teaching 8-week Plant Based Cooking Courses called ‘Discover Your Inner Chef’ in her community as well as presenting Sunday afternoon workshops on divine, decadent desserts!

With Spring around the corner, we are lucky to have Tracey coming to present to us her brand new ‘Scrumptious Summer Salads’ workshop.  This workshop will go beyond the green salad and teach us how to use grains, pulses, nuts and other gorgeous ingredients to create substantial and delicious salads that can often be a meal in themselves.  From rice, to quinoa, to sorghum and more, there will be something for all your taste buds at this fun, interactive demonstration.

Recent event: AGM 2016

Our AGM was held on Saturday 25th June, 9:15am-12:00pm. The topic was the Microbiome.

Speaker Biography:

Philip has been involved with nutrition and naturopathy for over 25 years. He first practised in clinics in Takapuna and Devonport, before opening a healing retreat in Kaukapakapa, which he ran for several years.

He taught at Wellpark college for seventeen years, and simultaneously ran the naturopathy and nutrition programs, introducing the first degree in naturopathy to New Zealand.

Philip wrote the book ‘Journeys back to Health’ ten years ago, and launched the CNA with Wellpark tutors and graduates in 2009. He has recently set up a clinic in Grey Lynn.
Presentation outline:

The gut microbiome provides a major influence on our weight and on our general health.

There are 100 trillion bacteria in our gut, and many are kept busy with tasks that promote our health. However, studies on gut bacteria have revealed the many ways in which they may also be adversely affecting us.

This talk considers the development of the gut microbiome, its role in health and weight management, and strategies we can use to manage our microbiome in practical ways to create weight loss and better health.

Buffy-Ellen Gill, founder of Be Good Organics, a plant-based whole foods blog, community and store. Buffy will be delivering a presentation on building a social community through various social media platforms. By incorporating some tips on how to build a successful social media presence, Buffy will outline the ways in which social media can be used as an effective tool to grow a business, and as a positive way to engage  with customers and followers.


Dr Neru Leavasa, a trained medical doctor who received his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from the School of Medicine at University of Auckland.  Dr Leavasa runs his medical practice in the heart of South Auckland, and he is the sports doctor for Auckland Blues.
He designed an incredible community based programme to improve the health of South Auckland, which featured on Maori TV, and he will be speaking about building creative connections with doctors.


Neill Share is currently the Campus Manager Director at New Zealand Institute of Health and Fitness, an organisation committed to finding and training the very best personal trainers in New Zealand. Neill is passionate about the fitness industry for which he has been part of for over a decade. Neill will be speaking on how personal trainers and nutritionists need to team up, support each other, and network together to enhance business growth.

Our presenter this year, Margot Watson, inspired all who attended with her skill at creating delicious and nutritious sweet treats.

The speakers:

Angela Haldane spoke on Pro-active approaches to Healthy Aging. Angela discussed research on nutrients and lifestyle factors to reduce the aging process. She also highlighted important factors that can interfere with the body's ability to achieve optimal health.

Robin Day is theManaging Director of Biotrace Ltd. BioTrace specialises in the importation and distribution of living source nutrition products. Robin’s passion for living source nutrients without binders, fillers lubricants or colourings stems from his personal experience with them in his own health journey and also of thousands of other New Zealanders and Australians. Robin spoke on antioxidants and their importance in maintaining good health.

Marcelli Coronet of FxMed shared her knowledge on longevity and how gene-nutrient interactions can impact the way that we age.
